I am returning to blogging after 15 years. I wrote my first blog between 2006 and 2008, a time when the concept of “social network” was unfamiliar to most people, Blogger was the undisputed leader in blogging platforms, our phones were equipped with keypads and batteries that lasted for several days without charging, and we communicated with our friends through SMS. The Internet today looks very different from that era, and I am now a different person (15 years older, basically) than I was back then. However, I feel a similar enthusiasm and curiosity about having a personal space to share knowledge and enjoy writing. Writing for fun, without any boundaries or incentive other than having a good time and connecting with friends. I don’t know how long this new stage will last, and I expect some evolution in the content and structure of what I post here, but the main topics I will be writing about are popular culture, technology and business.

I decided to create this website and invest in its hosting and domain registration as a vehicle to divulge and consolidate the personal brand I’ve built over the course of my academic and professional career. The branding and style of this website is deliberately minimalist, primarily for practical reasons (I’m not a professional website developer), but it’s the result of hours (maybe half) of brainstorming and reflection about a project that starts as I write these lines and I want to grow and transcend the pure individual entertainment and joy it delivers today.

In Spanish, red is defined as “set of elements organized for a specific purpose”. Another definition is “group of people related to a certain activity”. A third definition is “set of computers or computer equipment connected to each other that can exchange information”. I chose the word red to symbolize my professional identity and history, which starts with a degree in Telecommunications Engineering and spans for 15 years in business consulting and management, having built a network of people and knowledge I wish to preserve and continue to expand by creating this website. DGR are my initials, made up by my name, my paternal family name and my maternal family name. This website intends to be mostly a professional venture, but it’s also a personal project. In business and in everything else we do, we should never forget where we come from, our family, our culture, our roots… That being said, I couldn’t find a better name for this site and a .com domain in 6 characters or less.

I am aware of the resemblance this name holds with that of one of Internet’s most popular social media platforms. I would be honored if someone ever ends up visiting this website after an overlook of the auto-complete function triggered by their web browser.
