😎 your role is now reversed. I will present you with an answer from an application process. I’m organizing my material and I just lost the original question, I only have the answer. Based on the answer, suggest a typical question that would fit:
ANSWER: “I work for a business line within the IBM Cognitive Applications business, which comes from the acquisition by IBM of a software company named DemandTec around seven years ago. Recently IBM has announced that this business, together with another set of Marketing business applications will form a standalone company, but at this moment I’m still employed by IBM until the new company gets up and running. First of all I think I needed to clarify this point of who I work for, but now I can focus on the details of what I do. The kind of software solutions that we build are business analytics SaaS solutions for the Retail industry. More specifically, our most important product is Price Optimization, which is a software application that helps retailers make decisions about the selling prices of the products they sell at the stores or at the e-commerce platforms.”
What was the likely question?
🤖 The detailed answer provided, which includes specifics about the individual’s employment history, the acquisition of the company they work for by IBM, and their current role and responsibilities, suggests that the question could be one asking for detailed employment history, including any recent changes in the organization and the applicant’s current responsibilities. Therefore, a typical question that would fit this answer might be:😎 also suggest a simple question for this answer, which is a transcript from an oral interview:
“Can you provide an overview of your current employment, including any significant organizational changes and details on your role and responsibilities?”
ANSWER: “This software is delivered as a service and has different layers of the service that are delivered continuously to the customer: so, on one side there is one software platform that is accessed through a web browser (they see their data there and can run their analysis and visualize the recommendations). This software platform needs to be maintained and made available to the customer and there’s a team who maintains the software platform for the client. There is also a team that handles the data integration, a team that builds the models, and an implementation team that handles project management, training, and business support for the customer.
I’m responsible for managing the relationship with the customer in the long term, and for coordinating the activities of the services teams and software development teams to deliver the best service to the customer. So that involves project management when we have specific projects to onboard a customer on a module of the solution, but I also do a lot of pre-sales work before signing the deals and operations work, which means coordinating the delivery of the service in the long term.
My main role within this organization is what we call Client Relationship Manager for one of our biggest accounts here in Spain. This means being the focal point and go-to person for the client as I am the local person who knows both the technology and the client business and I coordinate the work of many other people who work some of them remotely from different parts of the world and some others from here in Madrid (I have a team of two more people working on different projects) to deliver the software as a service.
But I also have many other small roles for this and other clients and for the internal IBM organization. For example, in the last few years, I have as collaborated as a Subject Matter Expert in new implementations for new clients, giving training, and workshops, presenting at conferences, and things like that. I also work closely with sales and with offering management, to work on new prospects and to continuously improve the software offering. So those are additional roles that take a piece of my timesheet every week but it’s difficult to talk in detail about all of that.”
🤖 A simple and broad question that would align with the detailed answer provided, covering aspects of software delivery, team coordination, client relationship management, and involvement in pre-sales, operations, and subject matter expertise, could be:
“Can you describe your role and responsibilities, particularly how you contribute to the delivery of your company’s software services and manage client relationships?”
